Tips for a Romantic Date

If you want to keep the romance alive in your relationship, a regular date night can make all the difference. Even when you are traveling a little extra planning and work can help make it possible.  We have found that it is certainly harder but can be done!

A hike can be a great way to enjoy each other!
Here are some tips for planning a romantic night away from the kids:

Leave the kids with a friend
If it’s your first date night in a while, you won’t want to spend it worrying about how your kids are doing so leave them with someone you know and trust. Ask them only to ring in an emergency so you can relax and avoid checking your phone every five minutes.

When traveling we have found that we often have visitors or stay in a place long enough to get to know the new friends we meet.  Use those opportunities to ask for some help one night or better yet if they have children offer to swap babysitting duty so that each family can have some date time.

Treat yourself
Date nights are important for nourishing your relationship so try not to tense up at the idea of splashing out a bit. It’s good to have a treat once in a while, and spending a little extra will ensure you both have a great time. You’ll be able to come back feeling refreshed, happy and able to get on with the more mundane tasks with ease – it’s an investment!

Make an effort
Having a date with your loved one is also a great way to show each other how much you care. Get dressed up, plan something fun and make a pact not to spend the whole evening discussing work, bills, kids etc. This is time just for the two of you – so enjoy it.

While you are traveling it is easy to step outside your typical comfort zone and try something new and interesting.  Think outside the box, have a daytime date and go ride a bamboo train, or head out to an a cool festival event in the evening.  Date night can be a lot more than dinner and a movie!

While traveling festivals can be a unique option for a date
Go offline
Bar emergency phone calls from the babysitter, try and ignore your texts and emails during your date. If you can spend time just enjoying each other’s company, it’ll be all the better for your relationship. There’s nothing worse than competing with a phone for someone’s attention, so try and set yourself to ‘offline’ before you go out.

Talk over old times
Talking about how your relationship began can really help you feel more connected. Whether you met through friends or through online dating, remembering those romantic first few months can put you in the right frame of mind for a great date.

I find this to be important whether you are going on a date or not.  Reminiscing is an important tool for remembering what and who you love!

Recreate your first date
If you want to go one step further down memory lane, how about recreating your first date all over again? For example, if you had your first date in Northern Ireland, taking another walk in the beautiful countryside could definitely put you in the mood for romance.

Get creative and no matter where you are on your travels you can probably find some aspect of that first date or most memorable date to include in your night or day out.

Whatever you decide to do for your date, make it something the two of you will remember – and have fun!
