Places to Ski in Spain

European winter sports enthusiasts may well have heard about the merits of ski resorts in Austria, France and Switzerland. However, there are few people who would associate the high octane downhill pursuit with Spain. This article challenges the traditional thinking by highlighting some of the best resorts in Spanish areas such as Aragon, the Catalonian Pyrenees and Cantabrian mountain range.

Sierra Nevada Ski Resort

Anybody planning on taking Holidays to the Costa Del Sol should schedule a visit to this mountain based resort. It has a very high altitude and is regularly dumped with fresh snow. Visitors have access to a good range of routes, which vary in difficulty. The friendly mountain staff also offer reasonably priced lessons for anybody who is new to the sport.

Catalan Pyrenees

The snow covered Spanish Pyrenees are just as picturesque as any of the other European skiing destinations. It is here that you will find the highly regarded Baquiera-Beret resort, which has a good selection of runs suitable for beginners and well-practised skiers. After a tiring day zooming down the slopes it is worth stopping off for some après-ski at one of the nearby fine dining establishments.

Navacerrada

Anybody who has made a summertime visit to the major city of Madrid will be surprised to hear of the relatively close proximity of the Navacerrada ski resort. Although it isn't as popular as the other skiing havens of Spain, it does have a definite appeal. You will almost certainly be able to cut a clean line through the powder at the top of the mountain.

Teruel

This resort is located within easy driving distance of Valencia. Although it won't be the first choice for anybody scheduling a full blown skiing holiday, it is perfect for a day trip. After showing off your parallel turns and 360 spins, it's worth stopping off at one of the local village bars.
