Happy Chinese New Year

The year of the snake is here!  Today is the first day of Chinese New Year and with the population of Penang, Malaysia being as high as it is, a huge celebration has been going on for days!  Fireworks, burning incense and an overall party in the streets has been a daily occurrence.  It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of it all.

The above photo was taken at Kek Lok Si temple near Air Itam in Penang, where this light display will be going for a month.  This was as close as we could get 2 days before the New Year so stay tuned for more pics in the coming month!

  4. I got a chance to visit China for heir new year with my cousins. I must say that was the best new year I saw in my entire life. Lots of colours and amazing costumes. I have no idea normally how much they spent for the new year decorations. At night we never felt it was dark because of the colourful thousands of bulbs.
